I find it pretty difficult to write about myself, but here is a little peek into the person behind garrison photo co.
We live on a small farm in Northeast Oklahoma. Our families say that we are the hippie/feral children. These are descriptions I’ve come to love. We are homesteading, homeschoolers who feel strongly rooted here. But we also have a tendency to let ourselves blow in the wind.
So how does photography fit in? Well, its been a long journey to get here! I was ALWAYS the kid with a camera in my hand. It started with multi-packs of disposable cameras. Then I stepped it up to my first Sony point and shoot in 7th grade. ( Man, I thought that little baby was camera heaven ). Pepper in several other point and shoots over the years and then in 2011 I shared my first DSLR with my mom. And by shared, I mean I stole it from her (sorry mom) until, I took a giant leap in 2020 and bought my very own mirrorless camera set up. And here we are.
But where did my deep love of photographs come from? I think the answer is more complex than I realize. I was always fascinated with the old boxes of photos at my grandparents and parents houses. I would rummage through them for hours, day dreaming about the images in front of me. It wasn’t until I was older though, that I understood the look on a person’s face as they were staring at a photograph of someone no longer with us. The look that says gratitude, sorrow, bliss and nostalgia all at the same time. I want people to feel those things when they look at the photos I’ve taken of the people they love. I want my photographs to make emotions and memories come surging forward when they see them. I want that blip of time to feel real again when they see it, even if it’s just for a second.
I hope you’re inspired and will come on this journey with me.
xoxo
